Founded in 1992 by a dedicated group of professionals, the Sri Lankan Study Centre for the Advancement of Technology and Social Welfare (SCATS Australia Inc.) is one of the longest-standing Sri Lankan community organisations in Melbourne. SCATS has grown to become the most active and established Sri Lankan community organization in Melbourne. The organization has a strong emphasis on social welfare, culture/arts, education, technology sharing and seniors' welfare.
What began as a foundation for leadership and social welfare has evolved into a premier multicultural association. Today, SCATS serves as a vital bridge between Australia and Sri Lanka, delivering high-impact programs in education, technology, arts, and social welfare. Our work is recognised for its excellence, including the Victorian Multicultural Commission's Award for Excellence in Community Service.

Six distinguished SCATS members have received Australia's highest civilian community services award over the organisation's 34-year history: Mr Gamini Perera, Dr Senake Perera, Mr Wasantha Perera, Mr Sunil Pushpasiri, Mr Upa Upadasa, and Mrs Mihiri Dissanayake.
Donated over $90,000 in critical medical equipment to the Lady Ridgeway Children's Hospital (Singithi Suva Surekuma Appeal).
Established a long-running Scholarship Program (1992βPresent) for students facing financial hardship, and founded multiple Computer Training Centres in partnership with the Ministry of Education.
Built the AustraliaβSri Lanka Friendship Village (25 houses for Tsunami victims) at Batatha, Hambantota in partnership with Lions Dandenong Supper.
Completed major refurbishments for the Siyane Primary School in Malwana, Sri Lanka.
Pioneered the SEWA Seniors Program and established robust youth leadership festivals that help young Sri Lankan Australians embrace their identity.
