The Sri Lankan Study Centre for the Advancement of Technology and Social Welfare (SCATS) celebrated its Multicultural Australia Day programme on January 26 with the backing of SCATS Seniors, SCATS Youth and Australian Multicultural Community Services (AMCS) at the Burnside Community Centre, 23 Lexington Drive, Burnside.

The Indian, Vietnamese, Nepalese and African Community representatives, along with all the Sri Lankan religious groups, attended the programme — creating a truly multicultural celebration in the spirit of Australia Day.

On behalf of the Sri Lanka Government, Aruna Devendra, newly appointed Consul for Melbourne Consulate Office, participated at the event. Among the Guests of Honour were Brendan O’Connor MP for Gorton, Steve Macgee MP for Melton, Mayor of Brimbank City Council Alice Jordan Baird, Dr Medha Gunawardena (Manager, AMCS), Kaleel Cader (President of SCATS) and Kusuma Gunaratne (President SCATS Seniors).

The event was a wonderful demonstration of SCATS’ commitment to multicultural harmony and community wellbeing in Victoria. We thank all attendees, performers, volunteers and supporters who made the day a great success.

Photos from the event will be posted to our Facebook page: facebook.com/scatsorg
